It is very common to find boots on fence posts across the Midwest. Why? I've heard lots of theories; the smell keeps predators away, it honors farmers who have passed away, it is done by fun loving neighbors as a rural prank. Who knows, but it gives you something to look at as you drive around, and I appreciate that.
